With all that’s happening around us, the last thing on our minds is donating blood. However, these are the times it’s needed the most. Today there’s a blood shortage crisis in our community. Carter BloodCare is in desperate need of all blood types. If there’s one thing you can do voluntarily right now that’s safe, it’s donating blood.
Carter BloodCare has put additional measures in place for social distancing and has ramped up additional cleaning and safety measures at their blood centers and mobile drives. If you are healthy and feeling well, please consider donating blood by making an appointment online today! For frequently asked questions, go to FAQ.
“Blood is perishable and a blood bank’s supply must constantly be replenished,” said Vickie Carpenter, Manager of Operations for Carter BloodCare Central Texas. “While it is not used to treat COVID-19, blood is a critical resource for cancer patients, accident victims undergoing emergency surgery, new mothers and newborns, plus so many others. Donating blood is safe and takes only a little of your time.”
The two blood drives Surepoint has hosted for Carter BloodCare so far this year, resulted in:
Weatherford Blood Drive – A total of 14 participants and 1 deferral. 11 whole blood units and 4 double red cells were collected for a grand total of 15 units of life-saving blood. This event was held in honor of Clay Copeland, who has been working through the process of getting a kidney transplant, and had already had one blood transfusion among other medical struggles. This blood drive helped to insure blood for him and many others in the weeks ahead.
Denton Blood Drive in partnership with Holiday Inn Express – A total of 19 participants and 5 deferrals. 13 whole blood units were collected to save lives.
