Fishing Builds a Healthy Body
Sometimes it’s hard to see how casting a line into a fishing hole could lead to better health.
But it can.
First of all, it’s a low-impact exercise. Whether you’re casting from the bank, standing in the river, or launching your boat, you’re moving, but it’s easy on your joints. Depending on where you fish, you might have to hike in or walk aways, but it’s good exercise.
Fishing also helps increase your intake of Vitamin D while you’re outside. Even if it’s cloudy, you’re still getting sunshine and Vitamin D, which helps keep your bones and teeth healthy.
Baiting hooks, casting, and waiting for that tug on the line also helps improve your concentration. This can be beneficial whether you’re a wiggly 4-year-old or a 94-year-old who has been fishing his whole life.
Spending time in nature and unplugging from the world does wonders for your stress level. It’s hard to carry the weight of the world while you’re trying to reel in a fish.
While some people look for solitude, peace, and quiet when they’re fishing, others enjoy the companionship of friends or family members that comes with spending the day on the lake.
Reeling in the big one (or even a little one) can do amazing things for your self-esteem. Everyone remembers the first fish they landed and the feeling of accomplishment is still there every time you pull one into the shore or haul it into the boat.
And, of course, if you’re successful, there’s the fish! High in protein but low in calories, fish have beneficial omega-3 fatty acids and important nutrients. Depending on how they are cooked, fish can be a delicious and healthy payoff from a day spent on the lake.
